Bacup Borough 4-3 Chadderton

Chadderton suffered back-to-back league defeats on Saturday in a 4-3 loss at Bacup Borough.

The visitors suffered a disastrous opening to the game and found themselves four goals down by the interval. However, an inspired second-half performance saw Chaddy fall just short of returning to Oldham with a point, as goals from Matthew Buckley and a Ross Murphy brace created a nervy ending for the hosts.

The result leaves Chadderton in 17th position on 14 points, having won five, drawn two and lost six of their opening 15 games, while Bacup have leapfrogged Chadderton into 16th place.

Chaddy entered the game looking to make amends for the previous defeat to Atherton Laburnum Rovers seven days earlier. However, after a poor opening to the game, Chaddy found themselves a goal behind by the 20th minute. Adrian Bellamy opened the scoring before Joshua Walne grabbed a second just nine minutes later.

Chadderton will have been hoping to regroup at half-time but further goals from Matthew Bryan and Anthony Hall in the 42nd and 45th minute killed those plans dead – or so the visitors thought.

To the surprise of everyone in attendance, Chadderton returned for the second-half a completely different side and reduced the arrears in the 51st minute through Buckley.

Chadderton continued their assault on the Bacup goal and their efforts were rewarded in the 77th minute when Muprhy notched to half the deficit.

The same player registered a second ten minutes later to give Chadderton hope of claiming a point, but despite their best efforts, the Bacup defence stood firm and held out for a valuable three points.

Chadderton return to league action this weekend with a home clash against 15th place Cheadle Town. Both sides enter the game level on points.
