Avro 9-0 Old Alts

Avro extended their lead at the top of the Manchester Premier League with an emphatic 9-0 victory over Old Alts on Saturday.

Matt Landregan stole the show with a well-taken hat-trick, while Chris Howell and Jamie Woldon scored two apiece to add to Joe Rathbone and Lee O’Brien’s solo efforts.

The result has extended Avro’s unbeaten run to 13 games this season, having won 12 and drawn one.

James Hampson’s outfit are currently two points above second place Wythenshawe Amateurs, although they do have three games in hand on their title rivals.

Despite torrential rain and snow in the lead up to the fixture, the game went ahead thanks to the artificial pitch at the Vestacare Stadium.

Avro started the game brightly and it didn’t take too long for the table-toppers to take the lead. Rathbone hit an unstoppable effort into the top corner, leaving the visitors keeper with no chance.

Woldon doubled Avro’s lead before player-boss O’Brien headed home to make it 3-0 at half-time.

The hosts began the second-half in much the same fashion as they ended the first.

Two quick goals from Rathbone and Landregan made it 6-0, before O’Brien and Howell added two late goals to cap off a memorable day for the club.

Avro return to league action this weekend when Dukinfield Town visit the Vestacare Stadium.

When the two sides previously met in September, Avro ran out 2-1 winners, thanks to goals from Michael Stockdale and James Hampson.

Dukinfield will enter the clash with fresh legs, having suffered two postponements in as many weeks. Their fixture at Wythenshawe Amateurs on Saturday was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
