A Tameside College sports studies student has qualified for a place in the final of the Association of Colleges (AoC) national cross country finals.

Mussie Kasa, a Level 1 Sports student, will represent the North West in the cross country national finals 2018 in Nottingham after finishing second in the qualifying championships. He is one of eight male runners who will represent the region.

Mussie is taking part in cross country through the College’s enrichment programme, which encourages students to take part in activities alongside their studies. Other sporting activities include: volleyball, football, basketball and a whole range of others.

Luke Podmore, Enrichment Officer and cross country team manager, said: “It is fantastic for Tameside College to be involved in these sorts of activities and competitions, it allows students to push themselves to achieve more than just their chosen qualification. Enrichment activities are about building on individual strengths and helps build confidence through competition. I am really proud of what Mussie and the team have achieved today and I hope other students feel inspired by his success to get involved.”

The AoC Sport North West Cross Country Qualifiers were held on Wednesday 11th October at Witton Park, Blackburn. Mussie will now represent Tameside College at the prestigious AoC Sport National Championships in Nottingham in April 2018.
