Grantham Town 0-0 Stalybridge Celtic

With no points claimed away from home, a trip to the leagues top scorers isn’t exactly what you would want. But Celtic kept free scoring Grantham out and picked up an important point on Saturday afternoon. Coming into the game following a sloppy defensive performance at Marine in midweek, the Celtic back line defended superbly throughout. In fact only a bad miss from Dickinson stopped Celtic claiming all three points.

The game itself was a pretty uneventful affair. Celtic happy to stifle their normally potent opposition and try to hit them on the counter. Hot shot Lee Shaw warmed Walton’s hands with a tame effort. Just before the brake and Dickinson really should have put Celtic ahead. Good work from Bailey-Jones saw the winger put a ball across the box which found Dickinson a matter of yards out. But the big striker went against his impressive goal scoring return and somehow fired over the bar.

The second half was much of the same as the first. limited chances for both sides. Dickinson had a few half chances that he couldn’t quite do enough to really test the keeper with. As the game entered its final ten minutes Grantham cranked up the pressure on Celtic. Burrows hitting into a crowded box only to win a corner. Whilst Wright should have done better as he hit an effort straight at Walton. Killock and Ashworth put in sterling performances at the heart of Celtic’s defence though, so any chances were half chances at best. A thoroughly deserved point for Steve Burr’s men.
