A man from Ashton has been jailed for thieving from and causing damage at the town’s ambulance service station.

Ashley McDougall, whose address was given as Marlborough Street, pleaded guilty to the offence, which happened on August 21 this year, at Tameside Magistrates Court.

The court heard the 34-year-old had entered the station as a trespasser and stolen a TV worth £300, plus caused damage to the building.

Magistrates jailed him for 12 weeks, saying the offence had been aggravated by his previous dishonest record.

He was ordered to pay £600 in compensation.
