Man arrested after death in fatal Denton collision

A man has been arrested following the death of another man in a fatal collision in Denton on Saturday night (October 7) which also left two others seriously injured.

A black VW Golf collided with a tree near to the Arden Arms pub on Ashton Road at around 9:50pm.

A 26-year-old man, who was one of two passengers in the car being driven towards Ashton at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 24-year-old male driver is currently in hospital with serious injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A second passenger, who is 25 years old, suffered serious leg injuries and is in a stable condition in hospital.

Police are now appealing for anyone who has any information which could help with enquiries to get in touch as a matter of urgency.

Sergeant Lee Westhead, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “An investigation has commenced to establish the circumstances of this tragic collision, my thoughts are with the families of those involved.

“I would urge witnesses to the collision, anyone who saw the occupants of the VW Golf before the collision or those with any information, to contact my team as soon as possible on 0161 856 4741.”
