Boys and ghouls are invited to pick up a pumpkin from ‘The Pumpkin Square’ which opens at Clarendon Square Shopping Centre in Hyde this weekend for a free Halloween event packed with fang-tastic fun.

On Saturday (October 28), the centre will be more Clarendon Scare than Square, with a spooky pumpkin patch with eerie inspiration on offer from an artistic pumpkin carver to help visitors get into the Halloween spirit.

From 11am to 4pm, families can swoop on down to The Pumpkin Square – located on the mall – where children can select their own freebie squash, which can then be taken to the pumpkin decoration station where gems, bandages and other adornments can be used to give it a monstrous makeover.

Adults will also be treated to some carving tricks of the trade, with a devilish display of pre-prepared pumpkins showing how to transform them into frightful fiendish faces using a variety of simple drilling, shaping and cutting techniques.

Centre manager and ‘ghost-ess’ with the mostest, Paula Wood, said The Pumpkin Square is set to provide a brilliant day out for families.

She commented: “We’re going pumpkin crazy this weekend to make sure that the town is ready to thrill when the Halloween celebrations are in full swing.

“I’m looking forward to seeing people in their finest, frightening fancy dress outfits and hope everyone has a wonderful time getting stuck into the activities.”

For those who can’t make it to the event, there is an opportunity to take part in the fun with an online game lighting up as many pumpkins as possible in 30 seconds on the Clarendon Square website at www.clarendonsquare.co.uk/halloween-game for a chance to win a £50 gift card.
