Police were called to the Moss Tavern pub shortly after 3pm and found debris around the pub as well as two men barricaded inside. They closed off one side of Ashton Road, causing long tailbacks, as well as stopping trams in both directions.

Around 30 officers and seven vehicles were at the scene before they broke into the pub and arresting the two men.  Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances around the incident and anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 1180 of 20/10/17.

The incident is now over with trams running in both directions. Commuters are warned there may delays to the area.

It is believed the owner served an enforcement notice yesterday and is working through plans with Tameside council to knock the building down.
