Driver flees accident scene as man is killed in early morning collision

The junction of Manor Road and Greenside Lane where a driver was killed following an early morning collision today.

A 28-year-old man named by police as Christopher Ramsdale died this morning following a serious collision involving two vehicles in Droylsden.

The accident happened at the junction of Greenside Lane and Manor Road when a Blue Audi S3 and a brown Vauxhall Zafira collided at around 2.30am today (Sunday, October 1).

Mr Ramsdale was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, but sadly he died a short time later.

Following the crash the driver and passenger of the blue Audi were seen running away from the accident scene.

Police later tracked down a 26-year-old man who has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward, especially anybody with dash cam footage of the accident or information of activity leading up to the collision.

Police Constable Neil Pennington, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My sincere condolences to the family of Christopher, who sadly died in the collision. This is a tragedy and my heart goes out to them.

“Our investigation is in its early stages so we are appealing for the public’s help to piece together how this collision happened.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, and I’m particularly keen to hear from anyone who might have caught the incident or the lead up to it, on their dash-cam or CCTV.”
