Stalybridge Celtic are set to be cheered on by a plentiful crowd at Bower Fold on Saturday thanks to a forward-thinking plan by the Celtic Foundation.

As part of the Non-League Day celebrations, over 2,000 local Primary School children have been invited to attend the game against Matlock Town in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

The idea is part of the club’s ‘£5 Fresh Air Football’ Ticket initiative, but this time it will be free for one  adult and one child to come along and cheer the team on to another three points.

Once they pass through the turnstile, they can collect the club’s popular ‘Autograph Hunt’ sheets and try and get the ten signatures from the Manager, Players, Kit Man, Physio to Bower Badger.

School Assemblies have been carried out over the last two weeks at:

Arlies Primary

Buckton Vale Primary

Gorse Hall Primary

Millbrook Primary

Silver Springs Academy

St. Raphael’s Primary

Stalyhill Infants

Stalyhill Juniors

Wild Bank Primary

Children who are unable to attend can access the fixture v Barwell FC on Saturday 21st October, so they don’t miss out on the Free ticket offer.

What’s more, the initiative will also get the ticket holder a free Happy Meal from McDonalds (Hattersley Restaurant Only and with the purchase of a value meal).

Prior to kick-off on the day, the over 60’s walking football team, Vintage Celtic, will be playing a friendly fixture on the pitch at 2pm and the adult PAN-Disability team will be taking part in a Penalty Shoot Out during half-time.

Community Development Officer, Mike Smith, said:”We are looking forward to welcoming families from across Stalybridge to Bower Fold this weekend.

“As I told the children in all the assemblies, they can come to watch the match and be as noisy as they like cheering Stalybridge Celtic on! Hopefully it will be a good day, with a good crowd and three points – I can’t wait!”
