Police have released CCTV footage of an armed robbery in Stalybridge.

A shop worker was assaulted during the raid at N&N Newsagents on Ridge Hill Lane, just after 9.15pm on Wednesday October 18th.

Two masked men armed with wrenches stormed the store and dragged the man to the back of the shop where they assaulted him.

A third thief stole a large amount of cigarettes and cash which he stashed in a football-patterned duvet cover he’d hung around his neck.

Two customers were also threatened before the three assailants fled in a grey Toyota Aventis, driven by a fourth man. Police later recovered the car after it had been set alight on Cambridge Street, causing damage to two other vehicles.

The shopkeeper was treated by paramedics at the scene but thankfully did not require hospital treatment. Police have now released footage of the shocking attack and are appealing to the general public for information.

Detective Constable Jo Lockett of GMP’s Tameside borough, said: “This was a shocking attack that has left the victim, shop owners and members of the community extremely shaken.

“We are doing all we can to catch the men responsible and have released the CCTV footage in the hope that someone might remember seeing something that can assist our investigation.

“If you remember seeing anything in the area at the time of the robbery, or have any information about it that could help our investigation then please contact police so that we can bring the men to justice.”
