Audenshaw 1st XV 41
Queen Ethelburga’s 1st XV 20

Audenshaw’s 1st XV rugby team continued their impressive winning run on Saturday morning with a 41-20 success over Queen Ethelburga’s School from York. The school’s senior team have now won three of their last four games and are well poised in both the Lancashire and National Cup Competitions as the half term holiday approaches. The red and whites were quickly on top as the inform centre, Jack Lowndes, powered over to the right of the posts to open the Audenshaw account for the day. Dan Martin was on target with the conversion to make the score 7-0 after only four minutes and the home side struck again just three minutes later through stand off, Dan Johnson, the brother of Warrington Wolves star, Jack Johnson. Jack Lowndes added another to his personal account shortly after with Audenshaw moving ahead by 21 points to nil and struck again before the half through the brilliant Luke Nero who terrorised the Yorkshiremen for the entire game. A half time score of 28-0 was just reward for the 1st XV who continued in the same vein in the second half and but for some rather suspect decisions could have progressed to an even greater scoreline.

A penalty try decision allowed the visitors to register but further scores from Nero, Johnson and winger, Will Anderson made sure of a comprehensive victory for the men from Hazel Street. Late consolation scores from Queen Ethelburga’s reduced the deficit but Audenshaw will move forward with great confidence into the busy period in the run up to Christmas.
