The Hyde & District Sunday League kicked off recently. In the opening weekend of the Premier Division, reigning champions Charlesworth opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Organ Athletic. Newly promoted champions Railway FC may find life much tougher this season as they were defeated 5-0 by Harehill Tavern. Shamrock FC started in positive fashion as they beat Blazing Rag 4-0.

In game week 2, Shamrock continued their impressive start with an 8-3 victory over Organ Athletic. Contrasting fortunes for the Jolly Carter as they returned to the league after a two-season hiatus and were convincingly defeated 7-0 by Harehill Tavern. However, the Jolly managed to secure their first 3 points of the season last weekend as they overturned a 5-2 deficit against Organ Athletic to secure victory 7-5.

In Division One, Ridgehill Celtic have started the season strongly with three wins from three games, most recently with a 3-1 victory over Audenshaw’s Sun Inn. Last season’s runners up, Roe Cross, have started the season with two wins and a draw. Last weekend saw them edge Hattersley FC 4-3. It’s a difficult start for new club Little Astley FC, who have managed just the one point from the opening three games which was from a 1-1 draw with Brushes Rangers. Little Astley’s most recent defeat coming at the hands FC Commercial, with the latter securing their first win of the season 4-2.

The season is poised to be a tight one in both divisions.
