Summers Quay, how the development will look on completion in June next year (2018)

An eight million pound development located at Armentieres Square in the centre of Stalybridge is now well under construction and ready to be marketed.

Housing group New Charter’s commercial arm, Cavendish Property Development are behind the scheme that will provide  67 new homes comprising 22 one bedroom and 45 two bedroom apartments.

The project’s ground floor space will be for commercial use only with a flexible approach to occupation and usage types.

Cavendish have now appointed Impey as retail agents on the development and are confident that the high speed internet connections and  aspirational lifestyle apartments will attract both strong retail and domestic interest.

Impey’ will be charged with marketing the 2,637 sq ft (245 sq m) of ground floor, commercial, retail leisure space at the  private “build to rent” regeneration development.

Summers Quay is the first, and largest, private rented development to be undertaken by social housing provider New Charter Group, through its commercial property arm, Cavendish Property Developments (CPD).

The whole of the ground floor is available as one unit or there is a possibility of division to provide up to four retail or leisure units ranging from 390 sq ft (36 sq m) up to 783 sq ft (73 sq m).

Targeted uses including a small gym, coffee shop with outside dining and small grocery stores.

The development will have the advantage of being connected to Tameside’s private and ultrafast fibre technology which will give businesses access to high speed internet and Wi-Fi connections.

The scheme started on site in August 2016 with completion planned for June 2018 and is viewed as the next best thing to city centre lifestyle renting, offering canal-side, urban living within a suburban setting.

Speaking about the appointment Tony Powell, New Charter Group’s deputy chief executive said:  “Impey’s professional assistance in marketing the Summers Quay retail and leisure space will enable us to find the right occupiers that will enhance the lifestyle offer that Summers Quay residents can expect to enjoy.”

Andy Thornton at Impey said:  “Summers Quay represents a real step-change in the offer in Stalybridge and we hope to attract aspirational brands and uses to the ground floor space. This space will represent not just a fantastic amenity for the residents of Summers Quay but for users of the town centre as a whole.”

CPD was set up by New Charter Group in 2013 to carry out private rent, shared ownership, affordable rent, rent to buy and for sale residential development projects.

Summers Quay is being delivered in partnership with Rowlinson Construction and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council.
