Four fire fighting appliances, including a specialist unit from Eccles, were called to deal with a fire on a disused barge on the Peak Forest Canal at Hyde.

The blaze was discovered at around 6.30pm on Tuesday and firefighters from Ashton and Hyde responded to deal with the incident close to Raglan Street at Hyde.

The local crews were joined by the Water Incident Unit from Eccles and used one jet, a thermal imaging camera and a light portable pump to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour and ten minutes.

The cause of the blaze is not known.
