In the Evo-Stik Premier Division, Stalybridge Celtic moved off the foot of the table with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Halesowen Town at Bower Fold.

Liam Dickinson scored in the ninth minute to claim his sixth goal in eight games, providing Celtic with their third league victory of the season.

The striker, who returned to the club having been released after summer training, evaded the offside trap, picked a long ball out of the air and hit a beautiful strike into the bottom left corner.

Halesowen pressed for an equaliser, but goalkeeper Jack Walton was in no mood to concede, making a string of brilliant second-half saves to preserve Celtic a much-needed three points.

Elsewhere, Ashton United were unable to make it four consecutive league victories, instead falling to a 1-0 loss to Workington at Hurst Cross. The Robins’ defence were unable to deal with a long ball up field, allowing Scott Allison to dance across the edge of the 18-yard box before converting into the bottom right corner.

In the Evo-Stik First Division North, Mossley were denied a point in the last minute at Ossett Town. The referee awarded a penalty for what looked to be a 50/50 challenge inside the box, for which Danny South converted.

Chadderton shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with New Mills in the North West Counties League Division One.

In what was their first home fixture of the season, Chadderton fell a goal behind in the first-half before Mike Moss equalised to take a share points. The striker took his tally to six goals in nine league games on his home debut.

Chadderton return to action against Holker Old Boys at home on Saturday.
