FA Cup first qualifying round:

Hyde United secured their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Kendal Town at Ewen Fields on Saturday.

Big Khamsuk scored the decisive goal ten minutes from time, as the midfielder skipped past a defender, darted forward inside the box and slotted past the onrushing keeper.

As well as receiving the £3,000 prize reward, Darren Kelly’s side have also been rewarded with a tie in the second qualifying round at Warrington Town of the Evo-Stik Premier Division, who beat Grimsby Borough 1-0 on Saturday.

Warrington rose to prominence in the FA Cup during the 2014/15 season after beating Exeter City in front of the BBC Two cameras at Cantilever Park.

As for Saturday’s game, Hyde’s first opportunity came in the 13th minute when Chris Sutherland’s ambitious effort on the edge of the box flew just wide of the right post.

Despite looking the more threatening in the opening stages, Hyde were given a scare when Kendal’s Robert Bowman took advantage of a weak header from Paddy Miller and drilled his effort just wide of the left upright.

Harry Coates almost gave Hyde the advantage on the stroke of half time, but his chipped effort flew over the bar.

Tom Pratt almost took his tally to five for the season in all competitions just after the break.

However, the striker was unable to convert his chance and Paddy Miller also blasted over from a free kick.

Both sides looks creative going forward, but the only goal arrived in the 79th minute when Khamsuk took advantage of a lapse in judgment from the Kendal defender before driving forward and placing the ball over Kitchen in goal.

Hyde were never really tested after scoring the opener and held out for an important victory.
