Stamford Street close to where a man had to be rescued by the Fire and Rsecue Service from a building’s basement.

A man had a lucky escape when he fell from the roof of a derelict building in Ashton last night. (Tuesday, 26 September)

Fire crews from Ashton Under Lyne and Stalybridge were called upon to rescue the 38-year-old man, who had become trapped in the building in Stamford Arcade, in Ashton Town Centre

Crews were deployed in two fire engines, the technical response unit and the major rescue unit to safely remove the man from the basement  after he had apparently fallen through the roof of the building above.

The call for assistance came at 11.50pm and  crews rescued the man from the basement room using a ladder and stretcher.

Once the man was rescued he was conveyed to hospital in an ambulance by paramedics, he was apparently breathing freely and fully conscious.

Crews were deployed at the scene for 30 minutes.
