A man was killed in Oldham yesterday evening (Friday) when a car collided with a motorbike and the driver failed to stop.

Karl Hope, 25, from Oldham, died in hospital having sustained multiple injuries after a black Kawasaki motorbike collided with a green Ford Fiesta on the A627, Chadderton Way, at around 5:20pm.

It is believed the motorbike collided with the back of a black Mercedes-Benz then a black Mini before the rider collided with the green Ford Fiesta.

Police are appealing for information to help locate the driver of the Fiesta, with the registration number Y603 MDN, who failed to stop at the scene.

PC Paul Joynson, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “My thoughts are with the Karl’s family at this devastating time. This is such a tragedy.

“We are now appealing for people to come forward and tell us what they saw, this happened in rush-hour traffic, people will have witnessed this horrific collision.

“The driver of the green Ford Fiesta stopped momentarily before driving away from the scene, so they know they were involved.

“I am appealing for the driver to make contact with police as soon as possible. I would also like to hear from anyone who may know who the driver of the Ford Fiesta is, or may have seen the car abandoned. A man has tragically lost his life, I want to be in a position to give his family the answers they deserve.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741, call 101 or get in touch with independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
