Police say burglars who ransacked a High Peak house and escaped with a huge haul could have connections with Marple, Hyde and Stockport.

The theft was discovered on August 19 when a family returned from holiday to their home on Buxton Road in Whaley Bridge to find it had been turned over.

A blue BMW was stolen from the front of the house, also taken were a large number of items, including jewellery, tools, banking materials and electronic equipment.

A tractor mower was also taken from the outhouse at the rear of the property, which was later recovered.

Police in Derbyshire believe the burglary was on Monday, August 14, and that the thieves were in the house or a considerable length of time. They say they are open to all possibilities but believe the person or people responsible could have connections with a number of areas.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious, or has any information, is asked to call Buxton CID on 101, quoting reference 17000355562.
