Ashton man charged following jewellery ‘smash and grab’

A 36-year-old  man has been charged with burglary after a jewellery shop was attacked in Oldham.

Scott McEwan of Crawford Street, Ashton appeared at Tameside Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Tuesday 12 September).

He was arrested following a smash and grab style raid on a jewellery shop on Huddersfield Road in Oldham on Friday afternoon.

Police responded to reports of two men who had smashed  the window of the shop at 2.20pm and stolen a number of high-value watches .

Following his arrest McEwan was remanded in custody until his court appearance.
