Police are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old man was hospitalised following a collision in Oldham earlier this month.

The collision happened at around 8.35am on Friday 8th September, when a white Volkswagen van collided with the man on the junction of Heron Street and Wellington Road in Werneth.

The man suffered what, at the time, were believed to be minor injuries but his condition has since deteriorated and he remains in hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Hailwood of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “My thoughts are with the man’s family at this distressing time and we have specially trained officers offering them support.

“Whilst we appreciate that the collision occurred over a week ago we are asking anyone saw the collision, or anyone who was driving in the area at the time and has dash-cam footage, to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
