It was a winning start for Tintwistle Athletic’s First Team to their new league campaign in Division Two of the Manchester Football League last weekend.

The team ran out 6-3 winners away to fellow league newcomers Hindley Juniors at Harrison Playing Fields last Saturday.

Inspired by a man-of-the-match display from Ant Rodrigues, Athletic found themselves 2-0 up inside seven minutes through goals from James Crossland and Josh Stevenson.

Ryan McNee added a third after 10 minutes before Hindley settled into the game and pulled one back through Taylor Cain.

Chris Rathburn quickly restored Tintwistle’s three-goal advantage before Tom Burns made it 5-1 after just 21 minutes.

Stevenson scored his second and Athletic’s sixth just before half-time before Hindley took advantage of Tintwistle’s experimental changes in formation in the second half by reducing the deficit through a Tom Jackson brace.

But it was a successful start to life in the MFL for Tintwistle, who will play their first home game of 2017-18 against Breightmet United at their new-look West Drive home on Saturday.
