Jessy has been safely returned home

A barn owl that went missing from an aviary in Denton late on Saturday night has been found over 24 hours later.

‘Jessy’ escaped from the aviary at 11 o’clock on Saturday night (12th August) and her owners put out a frantic appeal to help find her. Thankfully, that appeal paid off as Tameside Reporter reader Tom Owen Joyce found Jessy in Audenshaw in the early hours of this morning (14th August).

Tom kept Jessy safe in his shed until her owners came and were reunited with their beloved bird. Tabatha Bennett, Jessy’s owner, said: “Remarkably, Jessy had no injuries and apart from being hungry and cold she is in perfect health. However, we will still be taking her to the vets for a check-up.

“She was starving and freezing but after a big pile of chicken and a soft, warm place to rest she looks like she’s never been happier. We cannot believe how the community came together to find her so thank you to everyone who helped.”
