Ashton United striker Ryan Crowther has been ruled out for the whole season after sustaining a knee injury during the pre-season schedule.

Crowther was stretchered off with the injury shortly after equalising in the 1-1 draw with Radcliffe Borough in July.

As a result of the injury, he will now miss the rest of the season which subsequently leaves manager Jody Banim with a void to fill.

Prior to confirmation of Crowther’s injury, which was announced on Thursday afternoon, Banim swooped to sign Jack Dyche from Scunthorpe United.

The forward arrives at the club for his third spell, having enjoyed two loan periods at Hurst Cross last season.

On Crowther’s injury, Banim said:“ He was a shining light for us last season.

“I was really looking forward to watching him and Chaddy pick up where they left off. The club will offer its full support in Ryan’s rehab and we’ll hopefully have him back fit for the start of the 2018/19 season”
