Ashton Features News Tameside

Tameside Reporter reader Steven Cooke has been in touch to send us these breathtaking images of the renovation works being done at Ashton Train Station and the drainage of Chadwick Dam.

The stunning images were taken by Steven using his drone and show not only Tameside’s stunning natural beauty but also the urban development currently taking place in the centre of Ashton.

The dam in Higher Hurst is currently drained for cleaning and sits close to the soon to be refurbished Stamford boating lake.

Just down the road in Ashton, work is well underway to refurbish the train station. It’s currently planned to be closed until Monday 31 July while engineering work takes place to enable better journeys between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge.

The work is part of the Great North Rail Project, which will see more than £1 billion invested in the railway across the north as part of the national Railway Upgrade Plan.

Steve’s photos help give an idea to the extent of the work being undertaken.

Many thanks to Steven Cooke for allowing us to use these photos.
