Road closures have been announced for next week’s Tour of Tameside.

The four-day running event returns to the borough for the third consecutive year from Thursday June 15th-Sunday June 18th and some roads will be closed for a short time on each day.

The Tour of Tameside kicks off with the X-Trail 10K on the Thursday evening. The race starts at 7.15pm at Park Bridge Country Park and finishes at Daisy Nook County Park. Alt Hill Road, Mill Brow, Dean Terrace and Waggon Road will all be closed from 7-8.30pm.

The tour continues on Friday evening with the Hell on the Fell which starts at Walkerwood Reservoir and ends at Active Copley after following a circular route through Stalybridge. Road closures and diversions will begin at 6.45pm, affecting Brushes Road, Huddersfield Road, Demesne Drive, Oxford Street, Stocks Lane, Mottram Old Road, Dewsnap Lane and Hobson Moor Road. The race starts at 7.15pm and once the last runner has passed, the roads will begin to re-open.

It’s a day time race on the Saturday as the Hero Half Marathon gets underway at 10am. The race starts on Padfield Main Road and runs through Hadfield Town Centre before joining the Longdendale Trail. As a result, Hadfield Town Centre will be closed for an hour between 9.30-10.30am.

The Tour of Tameside concludes with the Hyde 7 on Sunday morning. The race starts and finishes at Hyde Town Hall and Market Street will be closed all morning, from 6am-12pm, as a result. The route also takes in Stockport Road, Mottram Old Road, Underwood Road, Hattersley Road East and West, Mottram Road, Lumn Road and Stanley Lane.

The tour is always a fantastic event so if you’re close to an event why not give a cheer and support all the runners taking part?
