Cordoned off – Well Meadow remains closed by police

Specialist negotiators are continuing to attempt to talk a man down from a roof on Well Meadow in Hyde.

Emergency services including police, fire brigade and ambulance have all been at the scene since around 8am this morning.

It is believed police went to arrest a wanted man at an address on the street.

It is not known at this moment if the man on the roof is the same man wanted by the police.

Specialist police negotiators at the scene were lifted to roof top height by the fire service in an attempt to persuade the man to come off the roof safely.

One eyewitness said the man had been on the roof of a terraced property for around four hours, stating there were six police vehicles, two ambulances and two fire engines at the scene.

Another eyewitness said they had seen the man ripping up slates from terraced roofs and throwing them at people below.

A number of residents have been ushered behind a police cordon near Flowery Field Church.

The road is closed and the situation remains ongoing.

The man has been seen making his way along the roof tops of the street and throwing slates of some of the roofs

Police dog handlers have arrived at the scene
