Free advice, tips and screening tests will be available at a special event being held as part of Deaf Awareness Week this week.

Bloom™ Hearing Specialists in Marple are urging members of the public to find out more about the importance of hearing health and have any hearing loss or concerns addressed.

Audiologist, Nick Gostelow, will be on hand to provide the advice and screening tests, plus there will be complementary tea, coffee and cake available.

It all goes on at the Stockport Road premises between 11am and 3pm this Friday, May 19.

Deaf Awareness Week runs this week, partly highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss.

Left untreated, hearing loss can quickly progress and lead to the increased risk of disorders like dementia and depression and significantly impact upon one’s quality of life.

Therefore, the aim of the event is to highlight the importance of looking after hearing issues early on and raise greater awareness about the options available that can not only reduce the rate of progression but vastly improve one’s lifestyle and help them regain their independence.

More than 70 per cent of over 70 year olds and 40 per centof over 50 year olds have some kind of hearing loss.

It’s also estimated that one in ten adults in the UK would benefit from wearing hearing aids – that’s four million people – yet only one in 30 does.

“We hope people will join us for the event to learn more or call to arrange one of our specialists to visit them in their own home,” said Nick.
