A man has died after being struck by a train at Gorton train station, British Transport Police have confirmed.

Officers were called to the station at just before 5pm this evening (Tuesday) and are not treating the incident as suspicious. All trains which call at Gorton station are currently suspended until further notice.

TransPennine Express say that all train lines are currently blocked between Stalybridge and Manchester Piccadilly due to the incident. Trains to Hadfield are to be replaced with a bus service.

Tickets are being accepted on the Metrolink between Piccadilly and Victoria stations. Ticket acceptance is also in place with Northern Rail & East Midlands Trains via reasonable routes.

Disruptions are expected until around 9pm tonight and individual train updates can be found at journeycheck.com.
