Fire crews were battling a moorland fire above Stalybridge tonight (Thursday).
Six fire engines were on the scene, at Walkerwood Reservoir in Millbrook, including crews from Ashton, Stalybridge and Gorton stations.
Earlier Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue appealed for people to keep Brushes Road clear so firefighters could gain easy access to the scene.
Local residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed, with thick smoke in the air.
