Audenshaw School’s under 14 football B team were beaten by Carshalton Boys Sports College in the National Final of the Playstation Schools’ Cup at Derby County’s Pride Park this morning.

The year nine squad fell three goals behind, but fought their way back to take the tie to penalties.

Audenshaw were unable to bring home the silverware though, instead falling to a 5-4 loss in nail-biting shootout.

Following the loss, Audenshaw posted the following statement to their Twitter page: “Couldn’t be prouder of how our boys performed today.

“Football can be a cruel game and today showed that. We played the better football and fully deserved to win with the guts and determination showed to pull back from a 3-0 deficit.

“But credit to Carshalton, they were clinical and composed with their goals and penalties and when all is said and done, that’s all that matters.

“Congratulations on your win. Thank you also to the 50 year 9s, staff members and parents that were there to support us today. We are sorry we couldn’t finish off the job.”
