Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with an attack on a paperboy in Dukinfield last week.

Last Wednesday evening, the paperboy, who is also 14, was pushed by two boys who then doused him in petrol. They gave chase from Cheetham Hill Road to an alleyway close to Chester Avenue.

The boys continued to throw petrol on their victim and one then produced a lighter. Thankfully, the paperboy managed to alert a passing dog-walker. The perpetrators ran away from the scene in the direction of Chester Avenue and into Kingsway.

They are described as white, of slim build, about 5ft tall and both wearing black coats, while one had dark hair.

Now, police have arrested one of the boys but are still looking for the other. Detective Sergeant Philip Parker, from GMP’s Tameside borough, said: “Although we have made an arrest our investigation hasn’t stopped and we are continuing to appeal to the public.”

The police are also trying to trace the dog-walker to speak to him in connection with the incident.

Detective Sergeant Parker added: “We are especially keen to speak to a man who was walking a dog at the time of the attack who we believe may have witnessed something.

“He is described as white and bald. If you are this man, or you believe you know him, I would urge you to get in touch with us.”
