Two second half goals condemned the Bloods to their first defeat in five games but Dave Pace’s team will be rueing the missed chances that could have put the game to bed in the first forty five minutes.

Fielding an unchanging starting eleven from Easter Saturday’s win against Lancaster, Droylsden’s passing game from the back suited the opposition’s 4G pitch and the Bloods probably had seventy per cent of the possession in the first half.

After an early scare when a combination of Clarke and Holden prevented Matthew Beadle opening the scoring after a deflection saw the ball land at his feet in the penalty area, Droylsden’s patient play slowly began to pay dividends.

On the twenty minute mark Kilheeney was put through one on one with the goalkeeper Saunders only for the latter to anticipate the striker’s shot, five minutes later, Liam Caddick found himself in space on the edge of the area but pulled his shot wide and Adam Farrell minutes later had the ball at his feet on the other side of the box but badly blazed his shot over the bar.

The home team began to create chances as the half came to a close and the game opened out, Perel seeing his effort cleared off the line by Joe Connor after he had lobbed the advancing Coates.

No score at half time but Hyde came out all guns blazing in the second half, after replacing Kyle Harrison with Lawrence Hunter and in the space of five minutes, Coates was forced into making three excellent saves, twice from Beadle and once from Sutherland.

On fifty two minutes, from their fourth corner in a row, the home team took the lead, skipper Paddy Miller rising above the defence in the six yard box to head home.

Droylsden immediately made changes, Domaine Rouse and Scott Metcalfe coming on for Jack Rudge and Jamie Frost and on sixty nine minutes bringing on Dom Smith for Adam Farrell but failed to change the direction of the game.

The home team looked the more likely to score and on seventy two minutes Omry Perel’s powerful shot was tipped over the bar by Coates.

At the other end a quick free kick by Luke Daly found substitute Scott Metcalfe in plenty of room but with almost too much time to think, he pulled his shot across the goal.

A minute later Hyde doubled their lead, Peter Boyle clinically finding the bottom corner of the net after the ball was threaded through by Sutherland.

The home team appeared to sit back after that and in a flurry of ten minute action, the Bloods had opportunities to get back in the game. Dominic Smith one on one with the keeper failed to score on eighty four minutes while Saunder’s was superb in tipping Liam Caddick’s shot around the post for a corner.

A minute later the keeper was again at his best to deny the Bloods from a corner as Domaine Rouse’s follow up shot went narrowly wide.
