Denton: 172 – 6

Worsley: 114 all out (off 35 overs)

Denton’s first team started their GMCL Division 1 season this Saturday at home to Worsley at Egerton Street.

After last seasons promotion, this was the first chance for newly appointed skipper Halpin and his team to pit their wits against an established Division 1 side.

After losing the toss, Denton were inserted and soon slipped to 41-4 in early season conditions. However this brought Halpin to the crease to join opener Clayton, and they steadied the ship, before Halpin (11) and Horsfall (18) had departed and left Clayton still playing a wonderful innings with the score on 101-6. This brought Andrew to the crease and his power scoring helped Clayton accumulate at the other end and pass 50, with some late hitting getting the score to 172-6, with Clayton finishing 66 not out and Andrew 30 not out. Henshaw the pick of the opposition bowlers with 4-39.

In reply, Worsley lost regular wickets and fell 58 runs short, all out for 114 in 35 overs. Sackfield (20) was the top scorer, with a great all round bowling performance from Denton with Pannett (4-28) and Hayes (5-24) leading the way.
A great start to the season for the boys, with professional Cloete Buitendag set to arrive on Wednesday.
