Stalybridge Celtic’s final home game of the season ended in disappointment on Tuesday as Steve Burr’s side slumped to a 4-2 defeat to mid-table Harrogate Town.

Danny Ellis gave the visitors the lead in the 11th minute but Celtic drew matters level – albeit fortuitously – through an own goal in the 31st minute.

The majority 187 crowd who attended the game were then given something to cheer about in the 70th minute, as Gary Gee gave Celtic a surprise 2-1 lead.

However, the celebrations were short-lived as Harrogate Scored three goals in the final ten minutes through Dominic Knowles (x2) and Simon Ainge to secure their 16th win of the season.

Ainge took his tally to 22 for the season, having transformed himself into a prolific striker after starting the season as a defender.

Celtic make the journey to Brackley Town for their final game of the season on Saturday, before preparing for the Manchester Premier Cup final against FC United on Thursday, May 4.
