Bent loan extended at Oldham
Friday 28th April 2017 @ 09:45 by Mark Phillip

Oldham go to Dewsbury on Sunday (3pm) with a strong squad – and all guns blazing.

Jack Spencer and George Tyson have passed fitness tests; Liam Bent’s loan from Salford has been extended by another week; dual-reg players from Huddersfield Giants will be available; and Tuoyo Egodo is back in the picture.

The London-born youngster, of Nigerian stock, wasn’t allowed to play at Featherstone last time out because his full-time employers, Castleford Tigers, didn’t want him cup-tied.

“I’ll be picking from a big bunch of lads, and that’s great,” declared upbeatĀ coach Scott Naylor.

“Dewsbury are desperate for points and we’re going into their back yard. But we’re a different team to the one that lost both games at the Tetley’s Stadium last year.”

Naylor welcomed 19-year-old Bent’s loan extension and the Giants promise, unlike last week for the cup tie, that the dual-reg system would come into play.

Back-row forward Bent signed initially for a month. Salford then said he could stay, but only on a week-to-week agreement, which has now gone through three times.

Naylor said of him: “He’s a young lad who’s learning quickly. It’s good for him to be playing against men in this tough division.

“He gives 100 per cent at all times, with all the right things in place to become a top player. He’s on a big learning curve.”

OLDHAM (from): Turner, Lepori, Clay, Tyson, Chisholm, Leatherbarrow, Hewitt, Gee, Neal, Spencer, Langtree, Thompson. Davies, Owen, Burke, Hughes, Grimshaw, Ward, Gill, Egodo, Bent plus dual-reg.

Rams are expected to give a debut to hooker or half-back Sam Day, who played against Roughyeds for Featherstone last week and then signed for Dewsbury on a month’s loan.

Tony Tonks, Aaron Brown and Dominic Speakman will face lateĀ tests.
