Tintwistle Athletic First Team made it through to the semi-finals of the Rhodes Cup on Saturday as they won 3-2 at home to Old Trafford and Gorse Hill.

Jack Miller put Athletic ahead early on as he headed in from a Chris Rathburn corner. The away side then equalised just ten minutes later as the Tintwistle defence failed to clear. Tom Burns put the home side back ahead after half an hour from another Rathburn cross.

Josh Stevenson then made it 3-1 soon after as he ran direct to goal from out wide on the left before sliding the ball underneath the keeper. Tintwistle continued to create chances in the second half but were unable to convert any. Old Trafford managed to pull a goal back late on to make it 3-2, which caused a nervy last ten minutes, but Athletic held on.

Tintwistle Athletic Reserves were on the back foot in their game against Stoconians going 3-0 down in the first 30 minutes with all the goals coming from mistakes in defence. A spirited fight back was just not enough with a final score of 4-3 to Stoconians.
