Weekend Review Ashton Rugby Club
Tuesday 28th March 2017 @ 09:19 by Mark Phillip
Ashton Senior Colts 8-46 Liverpool St Helens
Ashton’s defence of last years Junior Plate came to an abrupt end at Gambrel Bank with a comprehensive defeat by the runaway League E winners .
Ashton started brightly pressuring the visitors line and opting for an early penalty shot and Captain Alex Meredith converted for 3-0. Ashton spent the next ten minutes camped in the St Helens 22, failing to convert two good try scoring opportunities.
The visitors cut loose and used their speed down the wings scoring 4 tries in each half.
Lewis Walker Ward had returned to the side and his power always troubled the visitors making hard yards and he was rewarded with a try early in the second half.
Ashton’s resources were again stretched thinly but the team fought to the end pressuring the line for the last 5 minutes. A try looked inevitable but the ball was adjudged forward as Hammond delayed a pass to put  Fish in at the end.
Ashton go forward to the Shield and have a bye into the semi final on Sunday, April 23..
Wythenshawe U13s 10-75 Ashton U13s
