Tyson and Lepori set to return for Dewsbury clash on Sunday
Wednesday 1st March 2017 @ 09:21 by Mark Phillip

GEORGE Tyson and Richard Lepori are hoping to make their first Championship appearances of the season when Oldham RL Club host Dewsbury Rams at Bower Fold on Sunday (3pm kick-off).

Shoot-from-the-hip Tyson was sent off for striking a Rochdale player at the end of the pre-season Law Cup clash with derby rivals Rochdale Hornets in January.

He has now cleared a four-match ban and will stake a claim for a quick return to the side at centre where Danny Grimshaw suffered a head injury in last week’s heavy defeat at unbeaten Hull KR, red-hot favourites to return to Super League at the first attempt.

Italy international Lepori, a key member of last year’s side, didn’t re-sign when new contracts were being dished out at the end of the season because he wanted a break from the game.

But he’s been back for four weeks, working on his fitness, and is now considered ready to push for a place, either at full-back or on the wing.

Although Roughyeds have won only one of their four league games so far, they’ve played the team that came down from Super League (Hull KR) and sides that finished second and third last year — London Broncos and Featherstone Rovers.

They lost by only two points to both Broncos and Rovers, but there’s no tangible reward for ‘nearly men’ so they seriously need to take two points off struggling Dewsbury on Sunday before they embark on another tough programme in the run-up to Easter.

Away from the league, they’ve been paired with St Helens amateur side Haydock in the fourth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup, which will be scheduled for Bower Fold over the weekend of March 18 and 19.

Haydock are the only community club still left in the competition and the first from the eighth tier of the sport to reach this stage of the Challenge Cup.

“That in itself means we’ll have to be on our guard,” said Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton.
