A hand gun was used in the shooting in the early hours of this morning in what police believe was a targeted attack..

A lone gunman brought terror to a mother and child at their home by firing at least five shots into a house during an attack in the early hours of this morning.

The hooded shooter carried out the attack just after midnight driving a silver VW Golf to the street before approaching the house and firing into the window with a handgun.

Police are now appealing for information following the attack on Sutton Road in Gorton.

Neither the woman or child were injured as a result of the shooting but they have been left “extremely shaken.”

Detective Inspector Muz Kernain, of GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “This is a serious incident that will understandably cause concern in the area.

“We believe that this was a targeted attack that poses no threat to the wider community and we have increased patrols in response.

“A mother and child have been left extremely shaken by this traumatic ordeal and it is fortunate that neither of them were injured.

“ I would urge anyone who saw anything that can help our investigation to contact us.”
