The Bloods came away from Merseyside with a point and a clean sheet despite being outplayed for much of the game by lowly Cables.

It was the home team that created most of the chances in the first half hour, Harry Cain breaking onto the left side of the area, only to James Coates to tip the shot around the post after eleven minutes while a Dale Wright header was deflected behind for a corner on the quarter hour mark.

Bloods created few opportunities, a Scott Metcalfe free kick caused confusion in the Cables penalty area which saw Kilheeney’s efforts to stab the ball Home blocked but the home team continued to press and were unlucky not to take the lead after a flying volley from Mc Cullock went wide of the far post on the twenty five minute.

Moments later, Clayton McDonald gave the ball away and only some fine keeping from Coates preventing Wright from scoring.

Meanwhile Bloods were racking up yellow cards, Dylan Smith, Steve Hall and Domaine Rouse all going in the book before the interval.

The second half continued in the same vain as the first, Bloods creating little while the chances continued to fall to the home team, Coates saving at close range from the ever dangerous Cain while Clayton McDonald picked up a yellow ten minutes in.

The home team then had a great chance to score, Dale Wright put through with the goal at his mercy before some great defending by Antione Clarke and a good block by Coates preventing Cables opening the scoring.

Droylsden brought on Smith and Daly for McDonald and Hall in an attempt to change things around but it brought little reward on the heavy pitch.

However with two minutes of normal time remaining, the Bloods nearly stole it, Kilheeney’s precision cross from the right finding the head of the hard working Adam Farrell only for the ball to come back off the cross bar.

It would though have been an unjust winner.
