Altrincham 0-0 Stalybridge Celtic
The bottom two of the National League North met on Saturday and boy could you tell both sides are struggling. A drab encounter leaves both sides seemingly only a matter of time away from being confirmed as relegated to The Evo Stik Premier. A thrilling encounter on a heavy pitch on Tuesday seemed to have sapped all of Celtic’s energy as they struggled to create any chances against a poor Altrincham side.
Some of the home sides fans staged a pre planned walk out after 15 minutes in protest at their current plight. In hindsight they were the wise ones as they missed a truly woeful game of football. Celtic only came to life when Tuesdays match winner Ahmadi was introduced before the hour mark but even then they couldn’t muster up a testing shot on goal.
Celtic had keeper Grant Shenton and centre halfs Matty Hughes and Matt Regan to thank for claiming a point as all three kept a tight ship at the back. On the rare occasion Celtic did look threatening they dallied on the ball when a more incisive action would have led to a clear cut chance. Deacon guilty of this on more than once. Altrincham nearly claimed all three points at the death but for a superb sliding block from Man of the match Regan. A game that all in attendance will try to burn from memory instantly. Where does it leave Celtic? With a mountain to climb and maybe now the rebuilding job for next season begins now.
