Lancashire Cup Round 7
Ashton 5-35 Rochdale
Tom Ainsworth got the try.

North West Colts League
Ashton 22-0 Glossop

Ashton welcomed Glossop to Gambrel Bank just two weeks after a 14-5 loss at Hargate Hill, the weather was not quite so welcoming, Ashton lost the toss and faced the bitter wind and snow but did not let it deter their ambitions for an open game of rugby.

Alex Meredith was back at scrum half, also ex Lancashire No8 Jack Heathcote got his first start this season and put in a man of the match performance as Ashton won the battle of the breakdown .

Meredith scored from the first attack as Ashton drove up field taking the ball blind and touching down wide out.

Ashton’s lineout defense was much improved and Glossop could not get their lineout maul working with excellent work from lock Connor Barwin and the returning Lewis Walker Ward adding his considerable presence to the forwards.

Liam Riley’s footwork got him the second try after 15 minutes, and hooker Conan Bligh added a third driven over in the corner for a 15-0 lead.

Ashton’s forwards continued to pressure the Glossop 8 and the backs ran the ball at every opportunity which resulted in the fourth try, towards the end of the first half Jack Woodward cut inside and threw an outrageous dummy making a clean line break and coasted through for a try under the posts converted by Meredith for what was to be the final score of 22-0.

Ashton are joint second in the league and can take top spot if they win their remaining 2 games. Next up is Northwich at home 5th March 2pm.
