Willow Wood Hospice’s distribution centre will open its doors to the people of Tameside for a sale next week and an Open Day in March.

The Ashton centre is where all donated goods are taken to be assessed and sorted before being sent to one of the hospice’s shops or sold on eBay.

The 15,000 sq feet facility, which is based on Langham Street, just off Oldham Road, is opening its doors to the public for the first time next Tuesday (March 7) for a sale of both new and pre-loved donated goods.

Gemma Coy, the distribution centre manager, said: “We recently had an incredible donation of brand new beds, headboards and lots of flat pack furniture, so it seemed the ideal opportunity to hold a sale here.

“If it’s successful, we hope it will be the first of many.”

In addition to the new stock, there will be plenty of pre-loved goods for sale, all at extremely competitive prices.

Items will include furniture, electrical goods, carpet tiles, toys, clothes, bric-a-brac and more and you will be able to drive right into the loading bay to pack your car with all of your bargains.

If you don’t have transport, Willow Wood can arrange deliveries for a small charge.

While looking at the sale items, you will be meeting volunteers and getting an idea of the support they give, not only at the distribution centre but in the hospice shops and as delivery drivers.

If you would like to find out more about how you could help and join Willow Wood’s team of nearly 600 volunteers, you can go along to an Open Day on Thursday, March 16.

This will again be held at the distribution centre and it will cover all areas of volunteering, from gardeners to complementary therapists, from receptionists to laundry workers and from kitchen staff to ward clerks.

Willow Wood also needs fundraising volunteers to help on an ad hoc basis, whether this be holding a collection can in a supermarket or signing in cyclists at the Big Bike Ride.

Mandy McDermott, hospice and community volunteer manager, said: “Just pop in at any time between 10am and 3pm.

“We’ll have lots of information about all the different areas where volunteers are needed, the kettle will be on all day long and we’ll even have cake.”

If you are interested in volunteering for Willow Wood but cannot make the Open Day, you can give Mandy a ring on 0161 330 1100 or drop her an e-mail at [email protected].
