Dave Pace has bolstered his Droylsden squad ahead of today’s Evo-Stik Division One North clash against Trafford at the Butchers Arms.

Defender Joe Connor has joined from near neighbours Ashton United, while striker Ciaran Kilheeney re-joins the club from Warrington Town.

Connor, who has previously played in the National League with Stockport County, joins the Bloods having spent the past two seasons with Ashton United.

Signed by former managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford, Connnor became an influential figure within the squad and featured in last year’s play-off semi-final defeat to Salford City.

The centre half also lists Hereford United, Macclesfield Town and Southport as his previous clubs.

Meanwhile, Kilheeney re-joins his home town club having spent the previous 21 months with Warrington Town.

A prized asset, Kilheeney, 31, was named in the Evo-Stik NPL First Division North Team of the Year at last seasons award ceremony.

The hot-shot was also named as the Division’s Player of the Year, and also took third place in the fans’ poll.

Despite being ranked as outsiders to reach a playoff spot this season, Droylsden will be hoping to take their recent good form into today’s clash against promotion chasing Trafford.

Droylsden were without a league fixture last weekend, although they did come from three goals behind to earn a memorable 4-3 victory over Tadcaster Albion the weekend before.

Pace’s side currently sit 12th in the table and seven points adrift of the playoff zone.

Meanwhile, Trafford were held to a 1-1 draw against Hyde United last weekend, which leaves the club fourth in the table and 11 points below table-topping Lancaster City.
