Fire crews were called out to deal with two separate fires in Ashton-under-Lyne overnight.

Just before 9pm yesterday evening (Monday), fire engines from Oldham, Hollins and Stalybridge were sent to tackle a cooking fire involving a pan of food at a house on Scafell Avenue.

Firefighters spent just over an hour at the property and used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a pressure fan to extinguish the fire.

Then, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, crews were called to a derelict building on fire on Kings Road.

Fire engines from Ashton, Stalybridge and Oldham rushed to the fire at a disused store at around 3:30am.

Firefighters used three breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a pressure fan to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for an hour.
