Monday 13th February 2017 @ 10:05 by Mark Phillip

Sports Tours International, the owners and deliverers of the iconic Tour of Tameside running challenge are delighted to announce a partnership with the regions leading leisure provider, Active Tameside.

The partnership will see a brand new and unique opportunity for runners, where teams of four come together to select one stage each to run – to cumulatively complete the Full Tour of Tameside.

The Active Tameside Relay is open to teams of four participants, can be mixed gender, is exclusive to non-club runners and on offer for the winners is the Active Tameside Tour Relay Trophy and other prizes from Active Tameside.

Active Tameside provide a wide and developing range of sport, physical activity and health improvement services in 10 leisure facilities, as well as in school and community settings across Tameside.

With over three million customer visits to their centres each year, the Active Tameside Relay will be a key focus for these customers as well as being specifically targeted to groups including corporate members and the ‘Couch to 5km’ running groups.

Mark Tweedie, Chief Executive of Active Tameside, said: “We’re excited to once again be working with Sports Tours International on what is sure to be another great event.

“We want to inspire as many people as we can to get active and the relay is a brilliant opportunity to do this by inviting people of all activity levels to take part and giving the chance to complete the full tour even if you are not able to do all 4 days by yourself.”

Kevin Harmer, UK Event & Sponsorship Manager at Sports Tours International said: “We are delighted to work once more with Active Tameside on the Active Tameside Relay, which is a completely new and unique way in which runners can participate in the event, with three friends or colleagues to complete the Full Tour.

“The Relay will open up the Tour of Tameside to even more runners, so now is the time to get together and #makeithappen.”
