The Hyde & District Sunday League returned last weekend after a short winter break, and despite the foggy conditions, most games were deemed playable and the day’s action didn’t disappoint.

In the Premier Division, Kings Head were still seemingly suffering with the Christmas hangover as they were beaten 6-0 by bottom club Tintwistle, who notched up their first league win of the season. Title contenders Charlesworth had a battle on their hands against Organ Athletic but they walked away with all 3 points after a 3-2 victory.

In Division One, in what appeared to be a one horse race with Railway opening up a huge gap at the top, Harehill Athletic managed to close that gap to 7 points after they prevailed 4-1 in a top of the table clash. Brushes Rangers keep up the pressure in third spot after a 4-3 victory over FC Brittania.

In the Rose Bowl quarter final, Blazing Rag and Ridgehill Celtic played out a 3-3 draw, before The Rag went through 4-3 on penalties. The referee commended both sides in what he deemed was a respectable affair and a pleasure to officiate.

Two Hyde League affiliated sides – Commercial FC and Roe Cross – both clashed in the Derbyshire FA County Cup quarter final. Roe Cross started 2017 in fine fashion and booked their place in the semi finals with an impressive 9-2 win.
