Tameside Hospital is asking people to stay away from the Accident and Emergency department as it is stretched to the brink this week.

In a statement on their website, they say they are: “currently experiencing high levels of demand in the Emergency Department, resulting in extended waiting times.”

They say they will be treating patients in priority order, meaning that patients with less urgent conditions can expect to experience a prolonged wait time.

Instead, they are asking people to use alternative services such as GP’s, walk in centres and local pharmacies.

The hospital apologises for any inconvenience caused, but says they are “directing resources to the most seriously ill patients in the department.”

They expect the high level of demand to continue for the rest of the week.
